Cell-Sized Confinements Alter Molecular Diffusion in Concentrated Polymer Solutions Due to Length-Dependent Wetting of Polymers

چکیده
Living cells are characterized by the micrometric confinement of various macromolecules at high concentrations. Using droplets containing binary polymer blends as artificial cells, we previously showed that cell-sized causes phase separation solutions because length-dependent wetting polymers. Here, demonstrate confinement-induced heterogeneity polymers also emerges in single-component solutions. The resulting structural leads to a slower transport small molecules center than bulk Coarse-grained molecular simulations support this heterogeneous distribution length and effective shorter chains droplet surface originates from conformational entropy. Our results suggest functions regulator for polydisperse specifically manipulates diffusion molecules, particularly those with sizes close correlation chains.

Molecular-weight dependent thermal diffusion in dilute polymer solutions.
Thermal diffusion of high polymers in a continuous medium is independent of the molecular weight Mw. Accounting for the solvent molecular structure and the Brownian motion of the solute, we derive an additional contribution of opposite sign which is significant for short chains but vanishes as Mw-->infinity. Our findings explain the dependence on Mw observed recently for polystyrene, and its in...
متن کاملMolecular dynamics simulations of dielectric relaxation of concentrated polymer solutions
Molecular dynamics simulations are conducted for concentrated solutions of flexible polymers. The results are contrasted with literature dielectric spectroscopy data, in an attempt to elucidate the observed phenomena from a molecular level perspective. A bead-spring model is used and systems with chain sizes up to N5150 beads at reduced densities 0.5<r<0.8 are studied. The dimensions of the cha...
متن کاملTruncated forms of RUNX3 unlike full length protein alter cell proliferation in a TGF-β context dependent manner
The Runt related transcription factors (RUNX) are recognized as key players in suppressing or promoting tumor growth. RUNX3, a member of this family, is known as a tumor suppressor in many types of cancers, although such a paradigm was challenged by some researchers. The TGF-β pathway governs major upstream signals to activate RUNX3. RUNX3 protein consists of several regions and domains. The Ru...

متن کاملDiffusion Coefficients in Polymer- Solvent Systems for Highly Concentrated Polymer Solutions
The Vrentas/Duda proposal for the diffusion of polymer-solvent systems, which is based on the free-volume theory, was employed in correlating and predicting mutual diffusion coefficients in highly concentrated polymer solutions. It has been observed that the predictive version of the model is capable of qualitatively representing the experimental data, while the use of an adjustable parameter g...
